Default I hate my crowns -Please help

My dentist wanted to put crowns on two of my upper molars - the two
just behind my cuspid. There was nothing wrong with them but large
fillings. I finally agreed and am now so sorry. The temporary crowns
were fine but I hate the permanents. I wore braces for years and am
used to having a perfect bite but now my teeth just don't fit together
properly. From the day he put them in I knew something was wrong and
have been back to see him four times for adjustment with no luck and
he blames it all on TMJ.
They hurt when I chew on them and they feel mechanically unsound. He
made a tray for me to use with a fluoride gel and when I compared it
with the trays I hlready had for bleaching, I could actually see the
problem. When I stack the old upper tray on the lower tray my teeth
all line up naturally, but when I place the new tray atop the old, it
flares way out and the teeth don't match at all. I tried to show him
this but he was quite dismissive. I sould mention that I've had four
other crowns done since the bleaching trays were made but they always
still fit. Now, I could never wear them as there is an intense tight,
pinching feeling where the new crowns are.
He is trying to rewrite history as well. He said that maybe the teeth
were worse than he thought and I may need root c****s and that I
should remember complaining of discomfort with the temps. What he
meant is that after 5 weeks one crown became sensitive to sugar. He
said it was the cement washing away, recemented them, mentioned one
showed water damage, and all was well until the permanents were ready.
When I reminded him of the details, he said, well, I don't recall the
damage being that bad.
The day the permanents were cemented was a wild day at his office. He
was interupted several times by the receptionist and emergencies and
once I had to sit in the waiting area with no crowns. He kept sanding
down the crowns until they didn't fit right and kept dropping out and
falling under my tongue. He told his assistant they needed to add
amalgam and I had to wait longer.
So, now what? Should I ask him to remove them and replace them in a
way that they don't jut out so? He seems unwilling to admit to there
being a problem or ever being wrong. Once I mentioned the dental
bonding on my once-chipped front tooth and he said he can't see where
there's any bonding and I must have imagined having it done.
I could go to another dentist but I'm afraid he or she will be
protective of this dentist and say there's nothing wrong. Also, I only
have $200 left in benefits as I've spent so much this year.
What would you do if you were me.

I would try and find a dentist who is responsive to my needs and
desires, but realize that it might just cost me something.

Do you go to this one dentist because you've always appreciated his
work, or because he's on a list of dentists who take your insurance?

Thanks for answering me, Fawks. I started seeing him because he was
recommended to me by a part-time dental hygenist who filled in at his
office a few times. He offers sedation dentistry and is quite gentle
though a bit on the older side. I have MetLife and can use any dentist
in this big town. I forgot to mention that I also have some sort of "
shelf " on one of the crowns. It's so hard to enjoy life when so
uncomfortable.

Hey! Watch that age stuff! I'll be 51 in December. <G>

Then the crown doesn't sound 'up to snuff'. Maybe a heart to heart talk
will get him to do better. Maybe not.

Sorry,
Fawks

Better old than dead.

Anyone that messes with 2 cycle Saabs is still a little eccentric in my
book.

No smoke since I started burning synthetic oil. <frown>

I used to be able to back out of the driveway, let it sit at the foot of
drive for a few minutes at idle to build up a good cloud, then drive around
the block and burst through my own cloud of smoke.

Now, all I get a brief and minor vapor trail for the first hundred feet or
so.

Hey,,,,,,,,,,, I wonder what toxic chemicals are released in THAT smoke?
